In November/December 2008, GAIN traveled to Nairobi to learn from and assist Anno’s Africa, a British NGO. GAIN members worked in the ballet and arts programs, distributed donated dance wear by Bloch, and helped in overseeing the final production.
GAIN's mission and vision were formalized after participating in arts workshops for children in the Nairobi slums of Kibera and Majengo, the results of a feasibility study and in-depth discussions with theater (S.A.F.E., The Theater Company, The New Africa Theatre Association), dance (Sarakasi Trust, IKPA Dance Theatre, Dance for All), and visual arts (Kuona Trust) organizations, independent artists, funders and U.S. Embassy officials in Kenya and South Africa during our October 2009 trip.
GAIN will begin its work in 2010 by offering scholarships and a cultural exchange in South Africa.
